List of Problems

  1. When I try to install the program using Setup, it tells me that it can't find 'bgdestroyed.wa_'
  2. Error installing, and error running initial language file
  3. Said My Directory was invalid and wouldn't install it
  4. Cannot start main setup program
  5. When installing i get the Following Error "An error occurred while registering the file "C:\windows\system\threed32.ocx"

StepsToReproduce

  1. Unzip file
  2. Double-click Setup
  3. See welcome screen, click 'OK'
  4. See screen with 'Change Directory' and the picture of the computer to begin installation
  5. Click computer
  6. See screen 'Choose Program Group'
  7. Click 'Continue'
  8. Begin installation
  9. Installation reaches 65%
  10. Message stating: 'Cannot find the source file, 'bgdestroyed.wa_'

ErrorMessage

Cannot find the source file, 'bgdestroyed.wa_'
Cannot find the source file, 'ChangeLanguage.ex_'
Cannot find the source file, '2VulcanSun.bm_'

Resolution (9/19/98)

The zip files for version 1.2 (and higher) contain long file names. If your unzipping program does not support long file names you may need to use a different program to unzip the files. I know WinZip works with long filenames. Another solution would be to rename the files to the proper names listed above.

Error installing, and error running initial language file

I can reproduce it on my machine, but that may not be the case with your setup.

When I click the setup button, it brings up the white box, then brings up error message 1.

Setup continues and appears to work, giving a setup completed successfully message.

When you attempt to run the game, it attempts to run the us/english language, gets halfway and reports the error 2.

Note that a different version of 'comctl32.ocx' is already in my windows/system directory and is approx 500kb in size.

  1. Error trying to update OLE automation registration entries. Failed with error 80004005
  2. run-time error 339. component 'comctl32.ocx' not correctly registered: file is missing or invalid.

This error is displayed when some of the Visual Basic files are not current. Downloading and running the full install will normally fix this problem.   I am sorry for any inconvenience.

Sorry to have taken so long to get back to you, I have been away from home for a couple of days.
The good news is that the file from MS worked. I can now run the game no problem.

If anyone can describe this error in more detail I can solve it.  I can't contact the person who submitted this bug report.  Please, if you submit a bug report, provide at least one method of contact.

Cannot start main setup program

  1. Downloaded
  2. Unziped the program
  3. When it goes to install it comes up with the error message

I suspect that the zip file was corrupted during download.You could try to re-download the file (from a different location if possible) and re-install. When you install, make sure that all the files in the archive are kept together in the same directory.

I didn't receive an e-mail for this bug report, so the response was delayed significantly.  There must have been a problem with the web server.

Iif you are installing the upgrade, try installing the full version. If not, this error could also be caused by programs running during the install process.  Try holding down the SHIFT key when Windows starts and shows the blank desktop.  This keeps the normal Startup programs from running.  Then run the install.

Error during unzip/install

  2. Unzipped the files
  3. During unzip, Copying initialization files, came up on the screen.
  4. Error appeared on the screen with text of, Cannot start main setup program! (Create Process() returned error code 0x00000485H)
